The End is Near
Okay, you should all be done or nearly done with The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman. And, of course, you're fervently working on your final essay, due June 7, which is Tuesday. That's the first deadline. The serious, "don't make me angry" deadline is Friday the 10th. After all, you don't want to have to do any thinking during the last week of school.

Here are the guidelines (from a previous post) but with modifications. I've talked to a few students who have pointed out that the three books don't all include things you've learned in U.S. History. Therefore, one would ask oneself, 'Self, how do I compare what I learned from Shane to what I've learned in U.S. History when there doesn't seem to be a connection?' So, here are the modified guidelines:

Essay guidelines
> Must be at least 500 words
> Must relate the books you've read to what you have learned in history class about that time period. Or, if there don't seem to be any connections, at the minimum you must explain what you learned about history from the book.
> The three books you can take from for this essay are Shane, Call of the Wild, The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman.
> Using the format of a 5-paragraph essay would be a good way to go about this task (with each book one of the supporting paragraphs).
> Hint: If you feel like you've forgotten the earlier books you read, you can go to each other's blogs and look under Archives for past posts on those books to remember some of the things that happened in them.
> Essays should be thoughtful and interesting, grammatically correct, spell-checked, etc.
> Post essays to your blog and give me a typed copy.
